Tucked into the western base of the Organ Mountains, the Soledad Canyon Day Use Area is where the paths of Bar Canyon and Soledad Canyon intersect. This tranquil spot is highlighted by the Bar Canyon Trail, a three-mile loop that promises a relaxed hike with a backdrop of Las Cruces just a stone's throw away. The trail rewards hikers with expansive vistas of the central Organ Mountains and the southern stretch of the Mesilla Valley.
Adding to the allure, the trail invites adventurers on a journey through a slender canyon leading to a hidden waterfall. The adventure starts at the trailhead, winding counter-clockwise to a fork at the halfway mark of 1.5 miles. Here, you're presented with a choice: proceed straight towards the remains of an old rock house and the waterfall at 1.63 miles, or veer left to continue the loop. Opting for the waterfall, you'll ascend a modest rise, then veer left into a secluded canyon culminating at the cascade. To complete the circuit, you'll retrace your steps to the junction, turn right, and follow the path as it loops back to where you began.
